School time is an amazing time in the life of every schoolchild, because it is during this period that children learn to understand the world around them, study it and interact with each other. It is not surprising that many today are already interested in information about how many weeks there are in 2017-2018, and there is nothing secret in this data, because one of the official documents of the Ministry of Education states that the next academic year will consist of 40 weeks, of which part is allocated for school holidays.

Number of study weeks

The number of teaching hours is directly dependent on what grade the student is in, so we can say that, on average, he spends about 35 weeks a year at school. For middle and primary school students, the year usually consists of 30-33 weeks; other students have to spend a little more time within the walls of the educational institution. Secondary school students receive less information, so they usually finish their curriculum earlier, but this is not a strict rule because this may vary. Moreover, sometimes the school year is extended for those very students who did not manage to pass exams on time or were irresponsible in their studies throughout the entire period of study, so you need to monitor your progress in order to go on vacation on time and not waste additional time on additional tests. or exams.

When discussing the number of school weeks at school, it must be said that the year usually ends on May 31, when schoolchildren attend their last classes, graduation grades begin to score, as well as passing exams and tests necessary to continue their studies at the university.

Students in grades 1 to 8 will study for 34 weeks next school year, and all other students will have to spend one week longer studying because their curriculum is more extensive and requires increased time to absorb all the necessary knowledge .

Calendar for schoolchildren

When discussing the question of how many weeks there are in the 2017-2018 academic year, it is worth saying that school will begin on Friday, September 1, 2017. It’s easy to guess that on this very day, schoolchildren will only have classes and introductory lessons, because none of the teachers will load rested children with new knowledge and tests after the summer has just ended and before the two-day weekend. The full period of study will begin on September 4, that is, on Monday, and it will continue until October 30 (inclusive), because then all students will be able to rest for one week at home (on vacation).

Special attention should be paid to the fact that November 4 (National Unity Day), which falls on Saturday in 2017, will be moved to Monday, so the school work week for Russians will be shortened by one day. Accordingly, the next period of study will begin on November 7, immediately after the end of the holidays, and they will have to study until the New Year holidays, because specialists from the Ministry of Education decided that on December 25 (Monday) school students will be able to go on a fairly long New Year’s weekend, which, according to the calendar, will last until January 10, 2018. The official academic calendar of even and odd weeks 2017-2018 contains information that schoolchildren will be able to rest for the holidays for almost two weeks, because they will only need to go to school on Wednesday (10th). The shift in days occurred due to the fact that the holidays of January 6 and 7 fell on official weekends, so the authorities decided to move them to weekdays and extended the rest of school students for two additional days.

Parents of first-graders, when studying the question of how many weeks there are in the 2018 school year, should pay special attention to the fact that their children will be given additional holidays from February 5 to 11, therefore the number of weeks in their school year will be reduced.

It would also be useful to say that school students will have another spring break for one week, the beginning of which is announced on March 24, so there will be enough time for rest. On April 1, schoolchildren will return to classrooms to gain knowledge, but you should prepare for the fact that the educational process on this day will be fun, because the end of the holidays coincides with the famous (unofficial) Prank Day.

The year of schoolchildren of different classes will end at different times - primary school students go on vacation on May 25, and older students will take exams and tests until May 31 inclusive. However, the final session for graduates, which consists of passing exams required for admission to higher education institutions, will last until June 20 (but is not included in the official educational process).

How do schoolchildren study in other countries?

In conclusion, it is worth saying that the calendar of even and odd weeks 2017-2018 for school students in different countries will not be the same, and the school year for them will not begin at the same time. Japanese schoolchildren, for example, begin their studies at the very beginning of April, when cherry blossoms begin to bloom on the streets of Japanese cities. The country's authorities believe that spring is a symbol of new life, so children begin to study at this time of year. It is noteworthy that the first holidays for them begin only after five months, but they continue throughout July and August, but studies resume in December.

The academic year is an annual cyclical process in which teachers, parents of schoolchildren from 6 to 17 years old and students of colleges, technical schools, and universities participate. Every year the academic year begins with Knowledge Day, which is held on September 1. The end of the academic year at universities is differentiated.

Regulatory documents on the duration of the academic year

According to regulatory documents in Russian schools, the academic year begins on September 1 and ends on May 26. According to the law, school educational institutions have the right to independently choose school and vacation time within certain periods:

  • first graders only study for 33 weeks;
  • second graders – 34 weeks;
  • middle and high school students – 34–36 weeks.

The Charter of each school and gymnasium describes in detail the terms of academic quarters or trimesters, the duration and time of vacations. At the beginning of the academic year, each educational institution notifies:

  • teaching staff;
  • parents, students about the timing of school hours and holidays.

In 2016–2017, students in educational institutions will study 157 days and rest 106 days:

School days Weekends Total number of weeks (with two days off)
September 22 8 4 weeks, 2 days
October 20 11 4 weeks
November 18 12 3 weeks, 3 days
December 17 14 3 weeks, 2 days
January 16 15 3 weeks, 2 days
February 19 9 3 weeks, 4 days
March 17 14 3 weeks, 2 days
April 20 10 4 weeks
May 17 14 3 weeks, 7 days

Number of study weeks

* general schedule for a five-day school week. The final decision on changing the deadlines is made by the educational institution.

  1. Autumn: October 29 – November 6.
  2. Winter: December 24 – January 8.
  3. Spring: March 25 – April 2.
  4. Summer: May 27 – September 1, 2017.

Schools also provide for unscheduled holidays for the following reasons:

  1. Quarantine (if the epidemic threshold is exceeded by 25% of the total number of students).
  2. When the air temperature in the rooms is below 18°C.
  3. At low ambient temperatures. First graders do not attend classes at a temperature of -25°C, middle schoolers - at a temperature of -28°C, and high school students may not attend school at a temperature of -30°C.

Academic year for students

The longest academic year for students is up to 45 weeks. The academic year in higher educational institutions consists of theory (lectures), practice, examination sessions, defense of coursework or thesis.

Each year, unless it is a leap year, has three hundred sixty-five (365) days. In a leap year there are one more of them, that is, three hundred and sixty-six. Next year, 2017, will not be a leap year, so it will have three hundred and sixty-five days.

And in 2017 there will be as many as 52 weeks plus one more day. This is calculated quite simply: since there are seven days in a week, 365 divided by seven equals 52 and one day.

How many months and weeks are there in a year?

According to the calendar, there are always only twelve months in a year, no matter what year it is. So next year 2017 will be twelve months.

Each month has 4 weeks, but January does not always start from the beginning. So next year, 2017, the year will begin on Sunday, and the week will consist of only one day. And so the second one will start on Monday, as expected. And the year will also end on Sunday.

This February will have twenty-eight days and is not a leap year. It turns out that there are 12 months of four in each, but since there are not 28 days in a month, except for February, but 30-31, then the total is not forty-eight (12*4=48), but more. In this case it will be 52.

How many weeks are there in 2017 excluding summer?

Summer is not included in the educational process, except for the first days, when exams, tests and tests are usually taken. Also at the beginning of summer, pupils and students attend detentions and relax in school camps.

If we calculate how many school weeks there will be in a year, then we do the following mathematical operations:

  • in June there are a full 5, it starts on Thursday and therefore covers three May days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday);
  • in July it is also 5, if you subtract the two days that remain in the June week (Saturday and Sunday);
  • in August there are 4 left, if you do not take into account the first 5 days that remain in the July week (from Tuesday to Sunday);
  • we add up the result and get 5+5+4=14.

We have already found out that 2017 will consist of 52 weeks and one day. Of these, of course, not all days will be school days; as in other years, some generally accepted public holidays will be celebrated in 2017. These are such as:

Academic year and working days

Summer holidays will not be included in the academic year, so we will count only holidays included in the period from September 1 to the beginning of summer, June 1.

The first and second weeks of January will be completely festive in 2017. School will begin from the third, on Monday, January 9.

Further, all weeks will be academic weeks, excluding summer ones. It turns out that 38 school minus 2, we get 36. However, it is worth taking into account the autumn and spring holidays, which in each school occur at different periods with a difference of 5-10 days.

In total, if you subtract from the number 36 the autumn week of vacation and the spring week, you get 34. However, an accurate calculation here is almost impossible, because each country has its own laws and rules, each school has its own.

The same applies to working days. However, if you take work into account, there are no holidays here. Therefore, the average working weeks in 2017 will be 36.

If we take into account the daily official leave, which at each enterprise is given in the amount of one month, then each citizen at work must work 32 working weeks per year.

In each year, the number of weeks is usually about 52, give or take a few days. A leap year has 366 days, which means it doesn’t really affect the number of weeks. Only one day is added to the year. 2017 will not be a leap year for the rooster and therefore promises to be calm and bright.

Some more interesting information about our calendar is in the next video.

For most children who have not reached the age of majority, the school year is a necessary process from which it is impossible to escape from the ages of 6–7 to 17 years. Moreover, the duration of study also affects students of universities, technicians and other educational institutions. That is why all information regarding the vacation schedule, the formation of academic quarters and the plan for future classes worries every person associated with a school or other public institution.

Briefly about the main thing

The beginning of the school year can begin completely differently for serious students and carefree schoolchildren. In most schools, lyceums and gymnasiums, on September 1, the First Bell is traditionally celebrated, at which all students, teachers and guests gather. The head teacher and the director give a parting speech to the school so that students approach the issue of further education with due consciousness. Next, the children will be handed out textbooks, after which various ceremonial events begin. Simply put, the whole school will begin normal lessons only the next day.

If we talk about university students, they don’t have such a rosy holiday on September 1st. From the very morning they begin their immediate responsibilities - study, study and study again. All these representatives of the educational sphere are united by the main question: how many weeks are there in the 2017 academic year?

How is the time for studying in secondary school determined?

There is currently no consensus on how to actually calculate the exact number of school weeks for instruction. Turning to the legislative side of the issue, it is possible to find out that each individual educational institution has every right to independently choose and vary the amount of time allocated for educational weeks and vacations.

It should also be taken into account that each individual educational level is guided by its own criteria for calculating this very period. For example, for elementary school students, one should take into account a completely different length of time for education within the school walls, which differs from the same indicator for the middle and high school levels.

In each Russian school, for such a case there is a specially approved charter, according to which the calculation of the exact number of calendar classes during one academic year is formed. This regulatory document describes in detail the terms of the educational process, depending on the quarters and the duration of the holidays between them. To get a closer look at such information from a particular school, you will have to study in detail its described charter.

Depending on the grade a student is in, he or she may have between 33 and 35 weeks of instruction. Typically, all first-graders and other representatives of the junior school study for no more than 33 weeks, and then the summer holidays begin for them in 2017 from May 25. By the way, it is the youngest school representatives who have an additional week of vacation during the winter holidays. But middle and high school students study for at least 35 weeks.

It is also worth noting that the announced rules do not apply to particularly gifted representatives of the average
and high school. They may be allocated less time for studying against the backdrop of excellent academic performance and successful completion of all tests and exams. Those students who are too irresponsible in learning new information throughout the school year may stay at their desks a little longer - beyond the specified 35 weeks. Such an exception applies in cases where students do not have time to take exams, tests and other sections of knowledge on time.

For all representatives of Russian schools and lyceums, classes for 2016–2017 will continue until May 31 (Wednesday). After this, the time for passing exams, graduation and practice starts.

Possible changes in the educational process for 2016-2017

In fact, the exact number of school weeks per year depends on exactly what the coming winter will be like. As many people know, in cold damp weather the activation of various infections and viruses begins, which causes a sharp increase in the level of colds. As soon as the number of sick students reaches a certain critical point, schools are forced to declare a quarantine lasting from 7 to 30 days. In some cases this period may be extended. It turns out that school time is reduced by the number of days when the quarantine was in effect.

Formation of study weeks in universities

As in most secondary educational institutions, almost all universities in Russia use their own order according to which the academic year is formed. As a result, it depends on the management of each individual educational institution when the process of training and vacations allocated for recreation will begin and end.

In addition to the right to draw up a vacation schedule, universities also have their own teaching calendar for even and odd weeks. The noted program is considered very convenient to use, since some theoretical classes can be conducted only during odd weeks, while practice is transferred to even weeks. The current legislation of the Russian Federation provides the full right to all educational institutions of the public type to draw up their own plans for the class schedule in 2016–2017. True, in this case you should not forget about the need to adhere to the general norms of weekend and study time.

Students of all universities, technical schools and colleges have a very long academic year, consisting in some cases of as many as 45 weeks. The problem in this regard is the summer and winter sessions, which “eat up” most of the holidays allocated for recreation.

In conclusion, all that remains is to add that in 2017 no visible changes are expected in the process of forming school weeks. Only the uncertainty of the winter period can make some adjustments in this regard.

It is a mandatory period of life for most Russian citizens. It is at this time that personality formation and character development take place, knowledge and professional skills are acquired. However, even those schoolchildren and students who really love to study look forward to the time when they can take a break from daily work and go to school.

An important question is the number of weeks during which studies will last in 2017-2018. It is also interesting how many of them are shortened due to public holidays and holiday postponements. The organization of the educational process in any institution that is part of the educational sector in Russia is subject to strict curriculum, and it is they who determine the number of weeks allocated for the learning process. Let's find out what the structure of the school year will be in 2017-2018!

Structure of the academic year in 2017-2018

Traditionally, the new academic year begins on September 1 - Knowledge Day, symbolizing the beginning of a new period in the development of a school or university program. Of course, the length of vacation time for schoolchildren and students varies, so we will consider them separately.

Younger students will study for 33 weeks, and older students - 34

School weeks in Russian schools

The structure of the new academic year can be presented as follows:

  • The start of studies is scheduled for September 1, 2017, and the end is scheduled for May 25, 2018. The first week of school is very short, because September 1 this time falls on a Friday;
  • the total number of days allotted for the academic year is 273, with about 100 days falling on vacations and weekends (this information is relevant for those who study on a five-day basis);
  • the number of school weeks in the new school year is 40, but not all of them are allocated to work in the classroom, because part of the school year falls on vacation. At the same time, junior high school students traditionally have fewer weeks to work than high school students. Most schools in Russia adhere to this structure for the 2017-2018 year: first-graders study for 33 weeks, students from grades 2 to 11 - 34 weeks;
  • Vacation time for most schoolchildren is distributed as follows: 10.30-6.11.2017 - autumn holidays, 12.28.2017-10.01.2018 - winter vacations (in this regard, schoolchildren are lucky, because January 6-7 falls on the weekend, which means they are postponed to weekdays, which means you will have to go to school on Wednesday). The start of spring break is scheduled for 03/24/2018, you can rest until 04/01/2018 inclusive. From May 25, schoolchildren will begin their favorite period - long summer vacations. However, students from the final classes finish their studies several weeks later, since they still have exams ahead. Primary school students are usually given extra rest during the February frosts - as a rule, these dates fall on 02/19-25/2018 or 02/05-11/2018 (it all depends on weather conditions and the need for quarantine).

It must be remembered that in most Russian schools, the management independently sets the length of the working week: for students from grades 1 to 8 it usually does not exceed 5 days, and for high school students who study in grades 9-11, especially if they study in an in-depth program , a week includes 6 working days. In addition, for children of different ages, their own standards for the duration of lessons are established:

  • for 1st grade – 35 minutes, 3-4 lessons per day;
  • for grades 2-11 – 45 minutes. At the same time, the junior school studies for 4-5 lessons, the senior school – 6-7 lessons.

Study schedule for universities

In the 2017-2018 academic year, university students will study for 36 weeks

Students have to study much longer than schoolchildren, and they do not have holidays as often. The educational process in higher educational institutions is characterized by autonomy. Students typically study for 41 weeks, of which 36 are classroom and session periods. Most often, you can focus on one of two learning models.

  • Modular system. In this case, the training weeks are called modules and end with testing in subjects. If training at your university is organized this way, then you can focus on the following schedule: 1st module - from September 1 to October 29, 2nd module - from October 30 to December 30, winter holidays - from January 1 to January 8, 3rd module – from January 9 to March 25, 4th module – from April 1 to June 17. The session and thesis defense period lasts until July 1;
  • Semester system. At the same time, students study from one session period to another, and weeks of lectures are replaced by practice and seminars. The structure of the 2017-2018 year looks something like this: from September 1 to December 30 - the first academic semester, from December 31 to January 8 - vacation, from January 8 to January 20 or 27 (depending on the course and the number of exams) - session , then a week of vacation time (this can be the period from 01/22 to 01/27/2018 or from 01/29 to 02/3/2018). The second semester will begin on January 25 or February 5 and will last until June 4 or 11. Then comes a session lasting from 2 to 3 weeks (4-16.06.2018 or 11-30.06.208). In addition, during these periods there may be internships for junior students. Those who are studying in their final year usually have a busy part of July or August - during these months not only practice is assigned, but also the period for defending theses.

Shortened weeks and postponed weekends

During the school year, schoolchildren will be able to rest for 9 additional days.

The good news is that many workweeks in 2018 will be shortened, because according to Russian tradition, if a day off falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it should be moved to a weekday. Remember the all-Russian holidays, which in 2017-2018 will provide additional rest time for students and schoolchildren:

  • 04.11.2017 (postponed to 6.11.2017);
  • 01/06/2018 (postponed to 03/9/2018);
  • 01/07/2018 (postponed to 05/2/2018);
  • 23.02.2018;
  • 08.03.2018;
  • 04/28/2018 (postponed to 04/30/2018);
  • 09.05.2018;
  • 06/09/2018 (this is not a holiday, but a shortened working day, which is postponed to 06/11/2018);
  • 12.06.2018.
